Cherish each fleeting moment, Oregon mom says

Michele and Steve Watts had squared everything away and were working on

their mission papers when Watts got a phone call from American

Mothers, Inc., asking if they'd mind postponing their mission if she was

chosen as Oregon's Mother of the Year, which she was. It was tough, she

said, but they realized being Mother of the Year was another kind of

mission.

Recently retired, Watts, a Mormon of the Sandy River Ward, Mount Hood

Oregon Stake, taught elementary school for 20 years after her five children

were grown. "It's a great career," she said of teaching. "It's a great way to give

back to the community."

When she went back to school to get her degree, she said she was

surprised to find that many of the classroom management techniques also
