WEST JORDAN — The 23rd annual Health & Preparedness Expo will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Veterans Memorial Park, 1825 W. 7800 South.

The event will offer $11 pet vaccinations and chip identification and free blood screenings, courtesy of Jordan Valley Medical Center.

There will also be safety and preparedness games for kids and information booths for parents, plus displays of squad cars, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles, according to city spokeswoman Kim Wells.

The police department plans to unveil a new Internet-based information service called Nixle, which will send messages that are weighted by importance to interested community members, Wells said.

A 5K Fun Walk/Run begins at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the "Break Free Run" benefit the West Jordan Victim Assistance Program, which serves victims of domestic abuse and other crisis situations. Registration is at 8 a.m.
