Utah has successfully demonstrated the smooth transition of power between a governor who resigns and his lieutenant governor who assumes the duties afterward.

The man who presently serves as governor of South Carolina, Mark Sanford, is prolonging misery by stubbornly refusing to resign his office. He may call his Argentine mistress his "soul mate," but he is demonstrating no conscience or soul. Now, his own lieutenant governor is pleading with him to resign and let him take over. Sanford refused. Sanford is obviously paralyzing the smooth working of government in South Carolina. The Legislature should immediately move toward impeachment of the man.
