NEW YORK (AP) — New York City will start tracking its building inspectors with GPS technology to make sure they're actually doing the inspections that they submit.

The Department of Buildings says it is equipping its inspectors' mobile phones with GPS systems so that they can be followed in real time.

Last year, a city inspector was indicted on criminal charges of tampering with public records. Authorities say he had reported inspecting a construction crane that he had not examined. Days later, it collapsed and killed seven people.
