ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Jerry Jones can keep his video boards hanging right where they are, at least for this season.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell clarified Friday the rules for how to handle any punts that ricochet off the high-definition monitors that hang over most of the field at the new Cowboys Stadium. Perhaps the key piece of his ruling is that it is only for this season.
By setting the video boards 90 feet above the field, Jones cleared the league standard by 5 feet. This action indicates the 85-foot rule might be re-examined in the offseason, which could force the first major renovation to the $1.15 billion stadium.
Tennessee punters knocked ball after ball off the screens before — and once during — the stadium's debut last Saturday night.
