WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Junior Karolina Bartkowiak recorded 11 kills and a career-high 11 digs as the No. 17 Utes opened the Utah Classic with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-21) win against Arizona State on Friday at Crimson Court.

Utah (1-0) earned its 10th consecutive home victory by outhitting ASU .381 to .144 and also held a slight 8.5-8.0 edge in blocks. Cinthia Silva had 10 kills on 18 swings (10-3-18) for a .389 hitting percentage in the match.

Sophomore middle blocker Danielle Killpack registered a career high and led the team with six blocks. Junior libero Keisha Fisher controlled the back row with a match-high 14 digs, while Chelsey Sandberg served a match-high four aces to go along with seven kills on nine attack attempts for a match-high .778 hitting percentage.

The Utes continue Utah Classic action with a pair of matches today: against UC-Riverside at 10 a.m. and against defending Big East Conference champion Cincinnati at 7 p.m.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Utes (3-0) handed No. 19-ranked Santa Clara (2-1) its first loss of the season Friday night at Ute Field, taking down the Broncos by a 1-0 score. The game-winning goal came from senior Kelly Isleib, who netted her team-leading third of the year.

Isleib scored on a direct free kick, bending it around the wall and into the bottom right corner of the goal from approximately 20 yards out. She becomes the third different Ute to notch the game-winning goal this season. Isleib brings her career totals to 11 goals and a school-record 25 assists for 47 points. She also has six game-winning goals in her career.

The Utes improve to 3-0 on the year as they capture their first win over a ranked opponent since beating No. 16 BYU in Provo, Oct. 16, 2007. The win marks Utah's first victory against a ranked opponent at home since a 1-0 victory over No. 15 BYU in 2006.

Utah is back in action on Sunday, when the Utes host Cal Poly at Ute Field. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. MT.
