Cindy Sheehan is closing down her war protest at Martha's Vineyard now that President Barack Obama has wrapped up his vacation there. Unlike her protest at the Bush ranch in Texas four years ago, there was almost no news coverage of it. Even more telling is that almost none of her prior supporters joined her there. It was a vocal anti-war sentiment that helped to elect Obama, but now that he's president, the silence has been deafening. Perhaps it's because Obama, totally ignoring the fate of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, recently declared the conflict in Afghanistan a "war of necessity."

Those of us who are truly anti-war are just as repulsed by Obama's attitude toward the continuing occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan as we were with Bush's. Situational ethics is alive and well in both major political parties.
