FARMINGTON — Davis County commissioners recently announced the creation of an award to honor people or organizations that make significant impacts to the betterment of Davis County.
The award, called the Heart of Davis, will be presented during the annual Davis County Gala, which will be held this year on Sept. 10.
The first Heart of Davis will be awarded posthumously to Deb Tanzi for her years of "selfless dedication toward making Davis County a better place," according to a news release from the commissioners.
Tanzi was involved in nonprofit, military and social service organizations. She died of cancer in May. Her husband, David, will receive the award on her behalf.
"It is the desire of the commission to recognize those whom make a difference in Davis County," said Commissioner Bret Millburn in the news release. "In the coming years, this prestigious award will continue to publicly celebrate the valuable contributions made by individuals or organizations to our community."
