Body found in Cedar City home freezer

CEDAR CITY — Police are waiting for autopsy results to help positively identify the body of a man found in a home freezer Tuesday.

Relatives of a man who appeared to have gone missing some months ago had come to the house, a single family home in Cedar City, to do some cleaning and yard work, according to Cedar City police detective Mike Bleak. While working there, they came across what appeared to be human remains in the freezer and called police.

Police had information several months ago that an individual had been missing, but relatives were under the impression that the man perhaps wanted to take off, possibly to go to Texas.

"Due to the condition of the body, we were not able to make a positive identification," Bleak said. "At this point, it's an active investigation."

Once the state medical examiner completes an autopsy, the individual's identity, as well as the cause and manner of death, should be known.
