Catholic Services seeking backpacks

Catholic Community Services will be collecting new backpacks and school supplies for needy children on Friday, Aug. 14, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donations can be dropped off at either Catholic Community Services, 745 E. 300 South, Salt Lake; or at the United Way Office at 2955 E. 300 South, Ogden.

Rummage sale set in Fruit Heights

Hilltop to offer music camp for grades 1-6

The children's music program of Hilltop United Methodist Church, 985 E. 10600 South, Sandy, is offering a summer music camp to all children of the community in grades one through six, Aug. 17 - 21 from 9 a.m. to noon. There is a registration fee of $10, which counts toward the camp tuition cost of $20. Tuition for families registering more than one child is capped at $30. Methodists plan free Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School at Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 E. 3300 South, will be "Jesus Loves the Little Children, All the Children of the World" on Aug. 17-21, 9 a.m. to noon daily. This is free and open to the public. Activities include crafts such as beading, sampling foods like fry bread, playing American Indian games, singing songs and hearing stories. Free screening of 'Humanity Ascending'

A free, public screening of the movie, "Humanity Ascending," will be Monday, Aug. 24, 7 p.m., at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1710 Foothill Drive.

St. Francis Xavier plans parish festival

St. Francis Xavier Catholic Parish, 4501 W. 5215 South, will hold its annual parish festival on Saturday, Aug. 29, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There will be food, games and entertainment. The public is invited.

Workshop aims to reconnect with earth

Multiple organizations have teamed up to present a unique conference at Utah State University during the Labor Day weekend.

"The workshop, 'Sacred Space, Urban Grace,' is an initiation into ritual shamanism with the goals of reconnecting people in urban and campus environments to the living earth," said conference organizer Bonnie Glass-Coffin.

The workshop is Sept. 5-7 at the Eccles Conference Center on the USU campus.

Cost for the three-day workshop is $199 for adults, $77 for students with ID and free for children ages 8-16.
