HeritageWest Federal Credit Union of Tooele was purchased Thursday by Chartway Federal Credit Union, after HeritageWest ran into financial difficulties.
Chartway officials hurried to assure former HeritageWest members through a news release that they will see no interruption in service and will have full access to the various financial services offered by Chartway, which operates throughout the United States.
Chartway, based in Virginia Beach, Va., has $1.2 billion in assets, about 154,000 members, 52 branch locations of its own and almost 4,000 shared service locations throughout the United States.
HeritageWest was liquidated by the National Credit Union Administration on Thursday, and Chartway's offer to purchase was accepted. When it closed, HeritageWest had $311 million in assets and 40,000 members.
HeritageWest was the 15th federally insured credit union to be liquidated in 2009, according to the National Credit Union Administration.
Chartway has branch locations in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Virginia.
