Fourth mission: BYU professor Warner Woodworth provides an insightful guest post on the newly announced fourth purpose of the church: to care for the poor and the needy. At Millennial Star, he talks about the history behind the change, the miracles he witnessed and how this new purpose will help the church better "Practice 'Pure Religion'" since it "will raise the prominence of doctrines admonishing us to be more aware of suffering, reaching out to others and providing community service to the downtrodden."
Youths celebrate: Start "A Brand New Year 2010" off right with this wonderful new Web site celebrating the testimony and vitality of the youths of the church. Download music from the event, hear counsel from youth leaders and spread the word about the 2010 YM/YW theme from Joshua 1:9. Cool!
2009 accomplishments: "I love this time of year: the evaluating, reflecting, pondering, planning, and prayerfully considering what I need to focus on for the next year. I love starting again and being re-motivated." So says one of the commenters invited by this blog post asking "What are you proud of this year?" Read the many successes, both big and small, and add your own. I'm proud of the many wonderful, spiritual, delightful, intellectual, just plain incredible blogs that I highlighted this year.
