Taxation is not legalized theft. When asked about the lawfulness of taxation, Jesus said "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's." It is also an LDS doctrine, from the Book of Mormon, that the majority usually choose that which is righteous. The majority of the American people want a portion of their tax dollars used to help the poor and needy

King Benjamin, in the Book of Mormon, would not tax the people to help himself or the poor. He called upon those who have more than they need to give to the poor out of the goodness of their own hearts. If the public didn't give, the poor would be turned out and the judgments of God would come upon the people.
