NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A spokesman says a Northwest Airlines flight from Detroit was briefly diverted to Tennessee after someone found a suspicious package that turned out to be a Christmas ornament.
Delta Air Lines spokesman Carlos Santos wasn't sure who found the package midway through the flight to Orlando, Fla., or why they thought it was suspicious. He says the flight was diverted "out of an abundance of caution."
The 75 passengers and five crew members on Northwest flight 2364 were taken off the plane in Nashville around 8 a.m. Friday while dogs searched it.
They were allowed to reboard about two hours later. It was a Northwest flight from Amsterdam to Detroit that authorities say a Nigerian man tried and failed to blow up last week. Delta Air Lines owns Northwest.
