Aaron Gibbs took more than normal to Hedgpeth Hills last month when he walked a hiking trail at a north Phoenix park.

Gibbs donned hiking boots, packed water and trail mix, took his two boys and grabbed a copy of a signature petition. The resident was determined to find Phoenix registered voters willing to sign the petition asking to overturn the City Council decision allowing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to build a temple 10 feet higher than zoning allowed.

Residents said this week that they had collected enough signatures to send the issue to voters, saying the temple at 5104 W. Pinnacle Peak Road is not a good fit for the neighborhood.
