WASHINGTON — The chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America is stepping down, the group said Friday, to become president of Refugees International.
Dan Glickman took over the MPAA in 2004 and has helped guide the movie industry through the rise of digital technology and online piracy.
The MPAA, which represents Hollywood, said its president and chief operating officer, Bob Pisano, will serve as interim chief executive while it searches for a replacement.
The office of the chairman is in Washington, but of the organization's operations are in Los Angeles.
Before joining the Motion Picture Association, Glickman served as national executive director and chief executive of the Screen Actors Guild. Before that, he held a number of executive positions at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Paramount Pictures.
Glickman officially leaves on April 1.
