Salt Lake City taxicab companies are being subject to a severe change regarding the taxi ordinance governing age of vehicle. This ordinance has been wrongly reinterpreted to say that city taxicabs cannot only be 6 years old to be added to their fleets, but can only be 6 years old period. This will result in several taxicabs in 2010 being forced off the taxi fleets when they can still meet requirements in semiannual taxi inspections. In January alone this involved 27 vehicles from the taxi fleet. This ordinance threatens to put several cab drivers out of work and severely impact the stability of taxicab companies.
