If you want to learn something about an unusual person in our state, get the January edition of National Geographic Adventure and read the cover article about Dr. Geoffrey Tabin of Park City, who is on the staff of Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City.
He is trying to cure preventable blindness on a worldwide scale. Together with Sanduk Ruit, a surgeon from Nepal, he founded the Tilganga Eye Center in Katmandu. They have helped restore eyesight to more than a half million people in the Himalayan mountains. Now he is starting to do the same thing in Ethiopia and other parts of Africa.
Dr. Tabin's work could always use more money to support his efforts.
