In response to David West (Readers' Forum Jan. 24). I'm sorry, but the law that states legislators cannot be arrested during legislative sessions was not passed so they could act as immorally and as illegally as possible. The law was created to allow legislative sessions to proceed smoothly and to protect against the possibility of falsely arresting a legislator, even for one day, to silence his vote.

I do not believe for one second that our legislators take advantage of this law. Any lawlessness is the exception, not the rule. Mr. West does not have the same privilege as legislators because he does not have the same responsibilities. I appreciate that monitoring political leaders is a civic duty, but some respect is also due.
