WEST VALLEY CITY — The City Council is asking all residents and visitors to help clear the air by turning off idling engines during non-emergency situations.
The seven-member body voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a resolution making West Valley City "Idle Free." Sponsored by Councilman Corey Rushton, the ordinance advises motorists to kill their engines if waiting for more than two minutes.
Local auto dealers agree that modern vehicles don't benefit from extended periods of idling because fuel used is not fully combusted.
West Valley joins Park City and Salt Lake City in becoming "Idle Free." However, none of the city resolutions are legally enforceable.
