STARKVILLE, Miss. — Three Utes scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the Utah women's basketball team fell to Mississippi State Saturday, 61-52.

Janita Badon had her second double-double of the year with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for Utah. Iwalani Rodrigues continued her hot scoring run with a team-high 18 points and Michelle Plouffe scored 14.

"I am proud of the way the kids battled," Utah interim coach Anthony Levrets said. "They never gave up on anything. We have to take advantage of the opportunities we have, and we had a few tonight and didn't take advantage of them."

Mississippi State held a slim lead of less than 10 points through most of the first half, but pushed it to 12 at 33-21 lead at the half.

Utah came out strong for the second half, scoring the first six points off three-point plays from Rodrigues and Badon to cut the lead to 33-27. The Bulldogs rallied to pull away as the half continued, going up by as many as 17 points, 55-38, with five minutes remaining.

Utah cut the lead down to seven, 58-51 before falling by nine, 61-52.

Utah will take the next eight days off for finals week, returning to the court on Monday, Dec. 20, against Southern Oregon.
