COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jared Sullinger scored 17 points and No. 2 Ohio State came out of the blocks fast to beat turnover-prone Western Carolina 85-60 on Sunday.

Dallas Lauderdale, William Buford and Deshaun Thomas all added 13 points and Jon Diebler 10 for the Buckeyes (8-0).

Ohio State broke free from an early tie with an 11-0 run and were never headed. They led by as many as 35 points before substituting freely.

Mike Williams led the Catamounts (4-8) with 22 points, while Trey Sumler had 12 and Brandon Boggs 11.

Due to fall quarter graduation held across the street at the larger, newer Value City Arena, the game was played at St. John Arena, the Buckeyes' home court from 1956-1997.

NO. 9 GEORGETOWN 89, APPALACHIAN ST. 60: At Washington, Jason Clark scored 15 points, Austin Freeman added 14 and Georgetown rebounded from its first loss of the season. Hollis Thompson and Nate Lubick added 11 points each and Chris Wright had 12 assists for the Hoyas (9-1) in the first meeting between the schools. Donald Sims and Jeremi Booth both scored 14 points for Appalachian State (3-4), which has lost four of five. The Mountaineers shot 20 for 56 from the field.

NO. 12 VILLANOVA 84, LA SALLE 81: At Philadelphia, Maalik Wayns scored 19 points, including the go-ahead layup with 1:09 left, for Villanova.

Corey Stokes and Corey Fisher had 16 points each, and Dominic Cheek contributed 14 for the Wildcats (8-1), who overcame an eight-point deficit in the final five minutes for their ninth straight victory over the Explorers (6-4). Jerrell Williams scored 20 points to lead four La Salle players in double figures. Sam Mills had 14 points, Tyreek Duren 13 and Ruben Guillandeaux 10. Villanova took the lead for good on Wayns' three-point play, a driving layup and free throw that put the Wildcats up 81-79 with 1:09 left.

NO. 16 ILLINOIS 86, NORTHERN COLORADO 76: Mike Tisdale and D.J. Richardson scored 14 points each and Mike Davis added 12 to lead No. 16 Illinois past Northern Colorado. The Illini (10-1) breezed through a comfortable first half and led by as many as 21 points in taking a 45-26 halftime lead in a quiet Assembly Hall. The building holds more than 16,600, but a snowy, windy day led to a crowd of just over 5,100. Bill Cole's 3-pointer with 1:20 to play in the first half gave Illinois the 21-point lead. Northern Colorado closed to 67-57 on three free throws by Devon Beitzel with 9:36 to play. But two 3s by Richardson put the Illini ahead 75-59 with just over seven minutes to play. Neal Kingman led the Bears (4-4) with 21 points.
