Mark Russell: Afterthoughts

The most pessimistic of the punditry predict that in the year 2020, the former American superpower will become Iceland.

Already, the assessment around the world is that our country is politically unstable, with a paralyzed and dysfunctional government. To the rest of the world, I say, "Kiss my Congress."

During World War II, the great Walt Disney, a very patriotic conservative Republican, produced propaganda cartoons for the government. One was titled "Taxes to Beat the Axis."

Today, our animated elected officials insist on fighting wars and nibbling at the deficit with tax cuts. Not even Disney could dream up this cartoon.

In our next cartoon, if we launch war No. 3 with Iran, it will take more tax cuts. Goofy mathematics 101.
