So, we're now into the 2010s. What will the next decade bring?
How will it be different from the Aughts (as they are now calling those years with two zeros)? How will life change? What amazing technological advances will we see? Will the digital age have unlimited potential or be too confusing for many brains? Will kids wear out their fingers through texting? Will the BCS finally go away? Will downtown construction get done? Will there be six sequels to "Twilight"? Who will be the next "Dancing With the Stars" champion from our great state?
What will come next? Let's look into the future and have some fun speculating — while we also have some fun rhyming.
The Next Decade is the theme of this year's annual limerick contest.
Rules are the same as always: Send in as many limericks as you want (within reason), principles of good taste apply, have fun, make us think, make us laugh.
Limericks must be received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3. Send them by snail mail to: Limerick Contest, Deseret News Features, P.O. Box 1257, Salt Lake City, UT 84110. Or, send them by e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Or, drop them off in person at 30 E. 100 South, Salt Lake City, 4th floor.
Our judges will pick the ones they like best (it's very arbitrary) and award the following prizes: First place: $25 gift certificate to Gardner Village; second place: a coffee table book on Ireland; third place: a CD (there's still a place for old-fashioned CDs) of Irish music; fourth place: some green goodies; fifth place: a decorate-it-yourself green T-shirt.
