ST. GEORGE, Utah — In an effort to lighten the load on the Utah Provo Mission, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced it will open a St. George mission in July.Utah Provo Mission President Neil Pitts said the Provo Mission has been stretched too thin and has covered too much ground in recent years. Such constraints, he said, made a St. George Mission an appealing prospect."The Utah Provo Mission has the largest number of stakes of any mission in the world," he said. "Because of the work that is taking place, one mission can't just keep adding and adding missionaries."LDS mission offices serve as a home base for missionaries in the area, overseeing assignments and other administrative duties.
