Dump workers get sick after opening bucket in Lindon

LINDON, Utah County — Two trash dump workers became sick Tuesday after opening a 5 gallon bucket containing an unknown substance that began bubbling, police said.

Employees at the North Pointe Solid Waste Special Service District transfer station had headaches immediately after opening the container at the dump near 200 South and 2000 West, said Lindon Police Chief Cody Cullimore. About 4:40 p.m., the employees drove themselves to a local hospital, where they were treated and released.

Hazmat teams are investigating the substance.
