Armed robbery suspect leads police on chase in Salt Lake County

SALT LAKE CITY — An armed robbery suspect led police on a high-speed chase through West Valley and Salt Lake, hitting two cars and a building in the process.

A 29-year-old woman wanted on an aggravated robbery warrant was being monitored by unmarked police cars, and when she attempted to leave, cops initiated a traffic stop near 2200 South Redwood Rd. But Dawn Levi, along with a passenger who is a parole fugitive, took off and led cops to 1400 S. State, where she crashed into a vehicle, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Melody Gray.

The driver then sped onto Main Street near 1700 South and crashed into a second vehicle and Willie's Lounge, hitting the building's outdoor ventilation system, police said.

Levi and 25-year-old Corey Mendenhall fled the vehicle and were captured by police within seconds, Gray said.

Levi was taken to a local hospital for minor "aches and pains," but police said she would be booked into Salt Lake County Jail on the warrant and investigation of fleeing from police. Mendenhall was arrested for violating parole, as well as investigation of fleeing.

The driver of the second vehicle hit in the chase was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. No one else was injured.

West Valley police said Levi was driving a stolen vehicle, which is now inoperable. The owner was unaware of the theft until police notified them.
