Ute sophomore earns MWC softball honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Tia Palauni, a sophomore second baseman on the University of Utah softball team, was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Palauni, from Taylorsville, Utah, batted .538 (7-for-13) last week, with three home runs, 11 RBIs and six runs scored, as the Utes went 5-0 at the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah. Defensively, she tallied 12 putouts and six assists with only one error over the weekend.
