WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Utah Valley women's basketball team continues its Great West Conference road swing with games at South Dakota and North Dakota this week. The Wolverines (5-20, 1-7) play at South Dakota on Thursday at 5 p.m. MT and at North Dakota on Saturday at noon MT.

UVU got 24 points from Julie Smith, 19 from Jenna Johnson and 14 points and six assists from Asumi Nakayama but fell 78-69 at Texas-Pan American last Saturday in Edinburg, Texas. Smith, the preseason pick for GWC Player of the Year, is averaging 17.9 points per game overall and 21.8 in conference games and continues to lead all Great West players.

South Dakota is 10-12 overall and 3-3 in Great West games halfway through its conference schedule. The Coyotes play four of their final six GWC games at home. USD defeated the Wolverines 65-56 on Jan. 21 in Orem.

North Dakota enters the week alone in first place atop the Great West standings at 5-1, 9-13 overall. The Fighting Sioux ran past the Wolverines, 84-71, on Jan. 14 in Orem.
