Trooper discovers drugs, sex in stolen vehicle

OREM — One Utah Highway Patrol trooper got more than he bargained for when he stopped to check on a vehicle parked along the freeway.

The trooper approached the stopped vehicle on the side of northbound I-15 near the University Parkway exit in Orem about 3:30 a.m. Saturday and discovered a 34-year-old Provo woman putting on her remaining clothes and a 17-year-old boy in his underwear, said UHP trooper Cameron Roden.

Upon further investigation, the trooper discovered pipes with marijuana inside the vehicle and learned that the car was stolen.

"It's one of the ones that definitely surprises you," he said. "We don't see this kind of situation often, but it happens."

The woman, who was charged just last month with possession of stolen vehicle, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of unlawful sexual conduct, possession of a stolen vehicle, drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended driver's license.

The teen was released to his family and may also face charges, Roden said.
