The Salt Lake, Ogden and Provo offices of the Internal Revenue Service will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 20, to help taxpayers who can't get in during the week.
Taxpayer assistance is also available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. But the Saturday hours this week were added because the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act includes several tax credits, deductions and allowable expenses that are new to taxpayers or that have changed to reach more taxpayers.
Employees at the three locations will answer questions on a full range of tax law provisions, including the new allowance for $2,400 of tax-free unemployment compensation funds. And the most commonly used tax forms and publications will be available, as will help for Spanish speakers.
For free tax help, bring a valid photo ID (including for your spouse, if applicable), Social Security cards and birth dates for all persons listed on the return, a copy of last year's return if it's available, income and other tax statements and helpful documents.
The addresses are 50 S. 200 East, Salt Lake City; 324 25th St., Ogden; and 173 E. 100 North, Provo.
