SALT LAKE CITY — The United States and Canada form a unique relationship, Canadian Consul General Dale Eisler told Utah lawmakers Thursday.
"Our friendship is a model for the world," he said. "We see in each other much of ourselves."
As athletes from around the world compete in Vancouver, British Columbia, Eisler said it is in both countries' vital interests to recognize the strength of their relationship.
Utah has valuable economic ties to Canada, with 61,000 jobs dependent on trade with Canada, he said.
Senate President Michael Waddoups also honored Canada's neighborly role.
"North of the border or south of the border, we're all Americans," he said.
