Gardening the focus of Logan ward's preparedness project

LOGAN, Utah — Forty members of the Northwood Ward, Logan Utah Cache Stake, gathered on a cold morning in January to assemble packets of garden seeds. It was part of a project by ward council and emergency preparedness committee members to develop food self-sufficiency through gardening.More than 39 varieties of seeds were packaged into small poly-packets with the variety name, number of days to harvest, planting depth and spacing imprinted on inserted miniature instructions. Seeds were bundled into individual packets to be later assembled into a Mylar pouch. Most of the seeds were selected because they were non-hybridized so that members could re-harvest planted seeds to support future family gardens. The ward plans to continue to inform members about gardening skills and techniques that will improve their success as urban gardeners.
