Mormon Koreans celebrate new year in Garden Grove, Calif.

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. — A Korean New Year's celebration was held the evening of Feb. 13 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' recently renovated chapel on Stanford Avenue in Garden Grove. Members, family, and friends joined in the New Year celebration enjoying some traditional Korean New Year foods.__IMAGE__Some participants spent hours leading up to the event making hundreds of a favorite treat food — rice flour dumplings, filled with spicy meats.After eating, children and young couples showed respect to their elders by bowing to them and receiving token Happy New Year's gifts from them.Later, games were played.Korean Branch President, Seung Koo, shared his hopes for the branch for the coming year — a tradition among Koreans while celebrating the New Year.
