UVU event raises funds for Haiti

OREM

— It was part rock and hip-hop concert, part dance performance, part

student fashion show and part informational program, but Utah Valley

University's Friday night fundraiser for Haiti was all about aiding

earthquake victims and improving the quality of life in the Caribbean

island nation.Proceeds for the

event at UVU's Grande Ballroom went to Healing Hands for Haiti and The

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Humanitarian Services.

Lynn Samsel, the church's director of humanitarian emergency response

and community services, who led LDS efforts in Haiti last month, was

one of several speakers during the two-hour affair.

Besides

the $5 admission, attendees could participate in silent auctions; sales

of arts, crafts and jewelry; and other donation efforts throughout the

evening.
