The Orchestra at Temple Square will perform its spring concert, "An
Evening of Russian Music," on March 19 and 20.
The concert will largely feature music by Tchaikovsky: excerpts from
"Swan Lake," and "Symphony No. 6 in B minor (Pathetique)," which was Tchaikovsky's final piece. Tchaikovsky wrote Pathetique, which means
"emotion," in 1893 and the piece was first performed nine days before
the composer's death.
"The intensity and beautiful flow of emotions in these pieces of music
make them a delight to be involved in whether your involvement consists
of listening, playing or conducting," said Igor Gruppman, the concert's
Ticket distribution will begin Feb. 23. Tickets are available at
www.lds.org/events or by calling 801-570-0080 or toll free 1-866-537-8457. Tabernacle
doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:30.
The orchestra, a group of professional volunteers, has grown to national
recognition since it started in 1999.
