Minor injuries in Dixie State College baseball team bus crash

COLORADO CITY, Ariz. — Five Dixie State College students suffered minor injuries early Sunday when a bus carrying the school's baseball team struck a truck plowing snow.

The accident occurred at 5:15 a.m. about five miles south of Colorado City, Ariz., on Arizona state highway 389, according to a news release from the college.

The Red Storm baseball team's bus was following the plow truck due to snowy conditions while driving back from a series in Phoenix. The truck stopped suddenly after coming upon a vehicle that had spun off the road, and the right side of the bus collided with the back of the truck, causing severe damage, the news release said.

Team members escaped through the emergency window exits. The five students taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George were released by 10:30 a.m. The driver was also taken to the hospital for observation.

The other team members returned to campus on a charter bus hired by the southern Utah school.
