Preps of the week

JORDAN BROWN, Alta, boys basketball: A three-year starting point guard, Brown picked the perfect night for arguably his best performance of the season.

The senior scored 20 points — just one shy of equally his season high — and knocked down two 3-pointers in leading Alta to a 61-54 victory over Brighton last Friday. The victory helped the Hawks clinch the outright Region 4 championship.

Earlier in the week Brown was just as impressive scoring 17 points in Alta's 59-58 win at Jordan.

Brown finished the regular season averaging 13.3 ppg, but his contributions on defense and in running the point for the Hawks have been just as important if not more important this year.

LONI ALLAN, Piute, girls basketball: Like several of her teammates, this senior point guard was stellar throughout last week to help lead her team to its first girls basketball state championship in school history.

Particularly in the last two rounds of the 1A tournament, Allan played outstanding basketball at both of ends of the court for the Thunderbirds.

Offensively, she finished with 13 points in the semifinals against Rich and with 16 points against Duchesne in the championship game. Defensively, she was a key cog in Piute's high-intensity full-court press, which wrecked havoc against Rich at the end of the game and against Duchesne from start to finish.
