CLINTON — Police evacuated several homes Monday after officers checking on a possible missing man heard a single gunshot as they entered the man's home.
Officers were contacted by the man's family, who said they hadn't heard from him in days, and went to his home near 2650 West and 2250 North about 7:40 p.m., said Clinton Police Chief Bill Chilson. When the man's father opened the garage door for police, a single shot was heard inside the home.
Police backed out of the garage and evacuated neighbors to a nearby LDS meetinghouse. The Davis County Sheriff's SWAT team was called out and attempted to make contact with the man inside the home. They later determined that the 40-year-old man had killed himself, Chilson said.
Neighbors were allowed to return to their homes about 10:45 p.m.
