Most wanted suspect arrested in Salt Lake City, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — One of Utah's most wanted men, a man accused of stealing cars, was arrested by Salt Lake police after a short foot chase that ended with the man being subdued with a Taser.

Police received a call about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday from a resident who claimed to have spotted one of Utah's most wanted in Liberty Park. A nearby officer drove through the park and spotted the man. After the two made eye contact, the man ran off, said Salt Lake Police Sgt. Robin Snyder.

Officers chased the man across 700 East and into an alley near 800 East and 970 South. The man was ordered to put his hands in the air, but he failed to comply, prompting the officer to deploy his Taser, she said.

While he was being arrested, the man appeared to swallow something, possibly drugs, Snyder said. He started experiencing symptoms of drug ingestion and was taken to a local hospital.

Carlos Roybal, 27, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after being released from the hospital for investigation of a number of charges, including multiple outstanding warrants for theft by receiving stolen property.
