Hatch misses the mark

Sen. Orrin Hatch's proposal for developing affordable health care misses the mark (My View, Feb. 24). The real solution to the problems caused by employer-provided health care is to ban it altogether. Why should there be such a crazy concept as nontaxable income? That idea has led employers and unions to corrupt the system by putting more into the nontaxable category, thereby creating another element of monstrous unfairness — those with costly employer-provided health "insurance" avoid taxes on a major portion of their income while those without such "fringe benefits" have to pay taxes on a greater percentage of their overall incomes.

The government and the employers need to get out of the system to the greatest extent possible.
