SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man earlier this week.
Jason James Davis, 36, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated murder in connection with the death of Steve Villiard.
Villiard's body was found Monday inside his home, 73 E. Claybourne Ave. (2770 South).
Davis was also booked for investigation of two counts of aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
Davis was arrested Wednesday night. Police did not release details Thursday about his arrest. South Salt Lake police officer Gary Keller said investigators were looking Thursday for a second person of interest. Jail records state that Davis was robbing Villiard "and another victim."
The motive for the shooting was robbery, police said, though it was unclear Thursday what the suspect was after or what the relationship was between him and Villiard. Keller said the robbery and the shooting were not random.
Court records indicate Davis has a lengthy criminal history including arrests and convictions for drug possession and theft. Likewise, Villiard had a long criminal history, according to state court records, including several arrests and convictions over the past few years on drug-related charges, including possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempted possession.
