Judge confirmed for Utah appeals court

SALT LAKE CITY — Third District Judge Stephen Roth was unanimously confirmed by the Senate Thursday to serve on the Utah Court of Appeals.

Roth was appointed in 2002 by former Gov. Mike Leavitt to the 3rd District judgeship, which serves Salt Lake, Tooele and Summit counties. Before becoming a judge, Roth served in the Marine Corps from 1970-74, got his law degree from BYU (graduating cum laude), and worked as an attorney in private practice and also as a federal prosecutor.

Since 2002, Roth also has been an adjunct professor at the University of Utah in its law school's trial law advocacy program.
