Diamond buyer beware

In the article "Expert Ice Advice" (Feb. 25), there was plenty of advice about quality and price of diamonds, but no discussion about the implications of buying a product from an industry that continues to viciously control the supply of diamonds and artificially inflate their value. More egregiously, they deny responsibility for certifying they are not "blood diamonds."

Maybe couples thinking about a loving life together may want to start with a symbol that doesn't represent the suffering of men, women and particularly children — or at least be responsible enough to purchase diamonds that are certified as being responsibly mined. Ask for the country and origin.
