WOMEN'S TENNIS: For the second consecutive day the Red Storm picked up a victory on the tennis courts. Today, Dixie State defeated No. 50 Mesa State College 5-4 in St. George.

"It was a huge step forward today for Dixie State tennis today!! In some tight matches the ladies were able to pull out some big points that gave the win," said Red Storm head coach Eric Pelton.

Similar to their match with Academy of Art yesterday, Dixie State split the singles matches with the Mavericks. Winning for DSC was Ashley Lafeen 6-2, 6-0 over Victoria Sargent, Courtney Kazerian defeated Amver Armanderez 6-1, 6-0 and the final singles winner was Laurer Tarver 6-0, 7-6 (10) over Cyndle Curfman.

In doubles, the pair of Alicia Holm and Kazerian defeated Kate Lowder and Sargent 8-6. The final win in doubles that gave the Red Storm the victory was Tarver and Adrienne Davis' 9-8 (4) victory over Armanderez and Curfman.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Freshman Forward Johnna Brown scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Red Storm defeated Academy of Art University 84-67 inside the Burns Arena in St. George on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing at the half 37-36, the Red Storm (15-8, 11-3 PWC) forced 15 Urban Knight (8-17, 4-10 PWC) second half turnovers and converted them into 26 points. Dixie State outscored AAU 48-30 in the second half.

Deanna Daniels scored 10 of her 16 points in the second half and added nine rebounds helping pace the 2nd half Red Storm surge. Dixie State shot 29 percent in the first half and 44.7 percent in the 2nd. Dixie State career steals leader Tanya Clark added 3 steals to her 9 points and 12 rebounds.

For the Urban Knights, four players finished in double figures with guard Sondra Stilwell leading the way with 14 points.

DSC won the rebounding battle 53-42 and had 19 steals as a team.
