Bomb threat at Hill Air Force Base

HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Hill Air Force Base received an anonymous bomb threat Thursday targeting the base's fitness facility.

Increased security measures were under way, and base personnel began responding accordingly, according to a statement from the 75th Air Base Wing.

The threat was received about 8:30 a.m. Security personnel evacuated the base's fitness centers and nearby facilities. The buildings were searched and determined safe at approximately 11 a.m. The incident is still under investigation.

The most recent security incident at the base was Aug. 20 when a man in a car tried to force his way onto the base. Security personnel had to activate bollards — posts meant to keep unauthorized vehicles from entering the base.

Teofilo Frankie Quintana, 40, was charged in U.S. District Court with destruction of property in the special and maritime jurisdiction of the United States, and unlawful entry upon a military installation.
