OREM — Utah Valley University's wrestling team posted its biggest dual-meet victory in school history Friday night with a 22-20 upset over No. 8 Boise State.
It was UVU's first-ever dual win over a ranked opponent.
UVU's Casen Eldredge faced a tough task entering the final match.
The Wolverines led by five and Eldredge, who normally wrestles at 184 pounds, moved up two weight classes and wrestled heavyweight against Boise State's Sam Zylstra (13-3).
Eldredge, wrestling with a bad knee, didn't need to win for UVU (8-2) to record the upset, he just needed to avoid the pin, and he did just that.
Zylstra won the match 6-4, but the three points weren't enough to surpass the Wolverines.
At 197 pounds, UVU freshman Josh Wood set up the possibility of the upset when he defeated Levi Holt by decision, 13-8, in the second-to-last match of the meet to increase UVU's advantage to 22-17.
