Logan man arrested in animal cruelty case

LOGAN — A 22-year-old man was arrested for stringing up his dog by the hind legs and firing three airsoft gun pellets into the dog's genitals.

Police recently received information that on Dec. 24, Emilio Hoy shot his Jack Russell terrier at least once in the presence of other people at his residence near 1400 North 200 West in Logan.

Hoy was arrested Feb. 5 for investigation of cruelty to animals.

Police said Hoy has relinquished ownership of the dog, and after a veterinary visit, the dog will be put up for adoption.

"It appears the dog is okay, but we don't know how many times this has occurred," said Logan Police Lt. Rod Peterson.

Police are investigating whether other individuals at Hoy's residence may have similarly hurt the dog or encouraged Hoy's actions. No one else has been arrested in the case.
