SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities have identified two people who were killed Monday in separate crashes on I-15.

Quin Ted Morris of Brigham City died from injuries sustained when his car slammed into the back of a semitrailer that had slowed to exit I-15 at the port of entry near Willard about 1:50 p.m., the Utah Highway Patrol said.

Morris, 36, was extricated from his car and flown to Ogden Regional Medical Center, where he later died. He was not wearing a seat belt and had a small spare tire on his car that had little to no tread on it, troopers said.

Investigators are trying to determine whether Morris, who was an alcohol-restricted driver, was impaired at the time of the crash

A blood draw was performed, and results will not be available for four to six weeks.

The day's second fatal crash occurred about 7:50 p.m. on I-15 near 9000 South in Salt Lake County. Troopers said Carolina Coss of Riverton was a passenger in a car that was traveling too fast for conditions and began to hydroplane.

Coss, 37, was ejected from the car after the driver lost control, crossed five lanes of traffic and was struck by two other vehicles. She was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

Troopers said the driver of the car Coss was riding in could face criminal charges. The case will be reviewed by the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office.
