Ruby Violet

Nielsen Anderson

1918 ~ 2010

Ruby Violet Nielsen Anderson, born September 12, 1918, in Ephraim, Utah, passed away April 12, 2010, at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the glorious age of 91 1/2. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph W. Anderson; parents Andrew and Violet Nielsen; brothers Sheldon, Donald, and Robert, and sister Geniel Beck, who now rejoice at her arrival, as we mourn our loss.

Ruby and Ralph met in Sanpete County and were married on July 26, 1947, being sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1966.

They began their life together in Ephraim, Utah, where Ralph owned a TV/appliance store, where Ruby also worked side by side with her husband, and they began raising their family of three children. The family moved to Salt Lake City in 1958, where Ruby has made her home ever since. Ruby's positive, caring attitude was contagious and was the essence of her loving character. In her unselfish way, family always came first; she made our home a welcome place for family, extended family, and friends for over 50 years. She was the glue that held us close together. She encouraged us all in every one of our life's endeavors and particularly loved each of her grandchildren in a very special way.

Ruby took great pride in working at all sorts of jobs from when she was very young, in varied positions from retail clerk to Hill AFB worker "pickling B-24s during World War II" to telephone operator; she was valued highly by all her employers. She earned her cosmetology license and later graduated from Utah Technical College with an Associates Degree in Business. After Ralph died in 1970 she worked for the Salt Lake City/County Health Department until her retirement in 1983. She retained a close friendship with the folks with whom she worked and took great joy in being a grandmother.

Ruby loved to travel and see new places and new things, especially when she could share the trips with her familyfrom camping trips in the Utah mountains, to boating trips at Lake Powell and a trip she never forgot to Hawaii.

She enjoyed a ride with family up Weber Canyon just the day before she left us. She always kept busy as a mother and homemaker, and could whip most of us at Nintendo which she played daily.

Ruby's life was her family. She leaves a proud legacy in the family she loved so much: sons Norman (Pat) and Mark (Kathy), daughter/best friend Jeanie (Rich) Carson, 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren and her sister, Faye (Sheldon) Jones, with whom she spoke daily and loves beyond words.

Friends may call at a viewing on Friday, April 16th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (approximately 7600 S.), Salt Lake City. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, with a graveside service, in the Ephraim Cemetery on Saturday, April 17th at noon. Online condolences may be shared
